Rekindle: A Shabbat Studio is a forum of learning, sharing, community building and radical amazement. The Studio included a range of formal and informal activities (including peer-led happenings and sessions, open space discussions and workshops) all designed to facilitate connections between Shabbat innovators – the movers and shakers of creative Shabbat programming around the world – and catalyze a community of practice.

Session 4: Eruv: Defining and Expanding the Boundaries of Shabbat

Creating communities includes defining their boundaries, and on a physical plane, Eruvs make up the boundaries of Shabbat communities. Come learn what an eruv is, how it's made, and what it means - through the lense of engineering, urban planning, and Jewish law. We'll also look at (and play with!) some case studies, and a text study to unlock a mystery of Kiddush - which is related.

Hart Levine hails from Greenwich Village and currently lives in Hudson Heights, NYC. After 13 years of Jewish day schools and a year of yeshiva in Israel, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 with a degree in bioengineering.
